A film essay that reimagines the origins of Chile’s capital through archives and performances by prominent contemporary Mapuche artists, exploring the resilience of a people who, despite their rage, continue to imagine the future through tenderness.
OFFICIAL SELECTIONS & SCREENINGS
Inside a museum in Santiago, a ritual mask awakens to inhabit the body of a young man wandering the city, summoning the protagonists of an indigenous past that the capital has long denied. The narrative interweaves present-day performances by artists with an archival collection showing 80 years of forced migration. Culminating in the historic attempt to establish a Plurinational Nation through Chile’s Constitutional Convention, and with an original score by VÑVM, Mapurbekistán dignifies a centuries-old struggle for sovereignty. It is a visual symphony where the displaced body merges with the metropolis to prove that, despite cycles of hope and defeat, the Mapuche people continue to dream.
